Responding to the clip and a viral WhatsApp message going around claiming that the man is the “Bomba chief”, the department maintained that the person in the video was not a fireman.
“This is being spread on WhatsApp.
“The netizen (who first sent the message) claims that this man is the Bomba chief. Since when was he a fireman?” it said in a Facebook post.
The TikTok video has been deleted from the account and it is unclear when it was first posted.
In the clip, the man urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to call off the search and rescue operation for Indian national Vijayaletchumy, 48, who fell into the 8m-deep sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India on Aug 23.
He said Anwar should stop endangering the authorities, including the fire and rescue department and the police, as well as troubling traders at Jalan Masjid India.
The man also claimed that the victim had been in Malaysia for six months.
Police previously said Vijayaletchumy was a tourist who had been vacationing in Malaysia for two months and was supposed to return to India on Aug 24.
The clip was accompanied by a forwarded message claiming that the man in the video was the “Bomba chief” and should be sacked immediately for making insensitive and racist remarks.
