2 eateries say central kitchens halal-certified

The management of another two chains says they are in the process of obtaining certification.

Jakim had issued a statement on the halal status of six restaurant chains in response to a query received through its public complaints system.
PETALING JAYA:
A popular dim sum eatery which was reported as not halal-certified yesterday has clarified that its central kitchen holds certification from the Malaysian Islamic development department (Jakim).

Dolly Dim Sum said its central kitchen, which supplies ingredients and semi-prepared food to all its branches, has received halal certification from Jakim.

“As mentioned in our announcement on Aug 1, we are also in the process of obtaining halal certification for each of our branches,” it said in a statement today, adding that securing halal certification for its central kitchen was a crucial step in the process.

Besides Dolly Dim Sum, Jakim yesterday confirmed that Johnny’s, Black Canyon, Mr Dakgalbi, Bungkus Kaw Kaw, and Ayam Penyet Best (except four outlets) are not halal-certified.

The department had issued a statement following a query on the halal status of the eateries received through the department’s public complaints system.

It said, however, that four of Ayam Penyet Best’s outlets have obtained halal certification.

The management of Johnny’s, and Black Canyon confirmed earlier today that the restaurants have yet to receive halal certification.

“However, we assure all our customers that all ingredients used at our restaurants, including eggs, poultry and other raw foods are from halal-certified suppliers,” it said, adding that these certificates can be found at the outlets.

It also said no alcohol is used in the preparation of food and drinks.

“We understand the importance of obtaining halal certification for our customers and are in the process of obtaining the same for our central kitchen as well as our individual outlets,” it said in a Facebook post.

Ayam Penyet Best yesterday clarified that its central kitchen has been halal-certified since 2012.

It said the halal certificate for its business premises is held by Smart Green Trading Sdn Bhd, effective from 2021.

“We are also in the process of obtaining halal certification for our outlets in stages. We hope this clarification addresses any concerns, and we thank you for your trust in us,” it said.
