Police to conduct periodic patrols at sinkhole location

KUALA LUMPUR:
The police will continue to monitor and patrol the sinkhole area at Jalan Masjid India here periodically after the search and rescue operation switched to the search and recovery phase yesterday.

Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the patrols were to ensure public safety around the area. He advised the public to avoid getting too close to the location.

Officials called off the search and rescue operation to find a missing Indian tourist who was swallowed up by a sinkhole which appeared while she was walking in the Masjid India area on Aug 23.

Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa yesterday said operations have shifted to the search and recovery phase.
