PETALING JAYA:
A former aide to an MP in Johor has been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at a swimming pool last month.

Zainoor Jumaat, 45, pleaded not guilty after the charge of physical sexual assault on a child was read to him before Muar sessions court judge Bayani Nor, Kosmo reported.

Zainoor is accused of touching the body of the victim with sexual intentions at a swimming pool in Sri Gading, Batu Pahat, at about 6pm on July 25.

The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a sentence of up to 20 years’ jail and whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Danial Munir prosecuted while Zainoor was represented by lawyer Siti Aishah Rais.

The court allowed Zainoor to post bail of RM8,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 26 for case mention.
