On Aug 15, ex-Esscom intelligence chief Mat Zaki Zain filed a lawsuit against former inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and 10 others, including Rusdi, seeking RM100 million in damages.
Mat Zaki claims he was falsely charged with the murder of an e-hailing driver in January last year.
The lawsuit also names former Selangor police chief Jalil Hassan and current Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan as defendants.
In a statement yesterday, Mat Zaki, 59, said the criminal case against him and his co-plaintiffs went viral across mainstream, alternative and social media, causing significant damage to their reputation and good name.
In January, Mat Zaki and eight others were acquitted by the Tawau High Court of the charge of murdering Nurman Bakaratu, 61, after the deceased’s former wife, Nurimah Juli, 35, confessed to the murder during her testimony.
Separately, Rusdi said 2,488 police personnel will be deployed at the FA Cup final between Johor Darul Ta’zim FC and Selangor FC at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Aug 24.
He said items prohibited at the match include firecrackers, helmets, sharp objects, weapons, drugs, alcoholic beverages, canes and walking sticks, power banks, bottled water, cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, drones, megaphones, as well as whistles and drums, unless permitted by the Malaysian Football League.
He also advised supporters and spectators to maintain proper conduct and not engage in provocative behaviour during or after the match.
