
The nine were among 12 men, aged between 20 and 40, who were arrested after the incident in Pudu on Aug 10.
All 12 were charged at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court before magistrate S Arunjothy. Three of them claimed trial.
They were charged with rioting in a public place using offensive weapons under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Karandev Raj Singh, 26; Arjundev Raj Singh, 29; Muhammad Syafiq, 30; K Sundar, 30; R Sarawanan, 32; G Thevakumar, 35; R Aravinthen, 36; M Uvethiran, 36 and N Prakash Naidu, 40, pleaded guilty and were fined RM2,500 each.
Bhavanraj Singh, 20; A Jegadeshavaran Pillai, 24; and S Vaynu, 29, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The court allowed them bail of RM2,000 each with one surety and set Oct 15 for submission of documents.
Deputy public prosecutor Vivi’asnita Zaina’larifin prosecuted.
Prakash Naidu, Sarawanan, Muhammad, Aravinthen, Vaynu and Jegadeshavaran were represented by S Vinesh and Daneish Thayalan while Arjundev, Karandev and Sundar were represented by M Mathavan.
Harcharanjit Singh represented Bhavanraj.
FMT could not confirm whether Thevakumar and Uvethiran were represented.
