Man charged with triple murder in Kota Tinggi shooting

PETALING JAYA:
A 71-year-old man has been charged at the magistrates’ court in Kota Tinggi, Johor, with three counts of murder in connection with a shooting at a restaurant near Taman Kota Jaya on April 19.

Lim Lian nodded after the three charges were read to him in Mandarin by a court interpreter before magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar, Harian Metro reported.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, Lim is accused of murdering two local men – Wong Poh Soon, 61, and Chen Kwai Hwa, 64 – as well as a foreign woman – Tran Thi Trang, 37 – at Kedai Chan Fong Moi along Jalan Delima, Taman Kota Jaya, at about 1.30pm on April 19.

The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Deputy public prosecutor Eizlan Azhar appeared for the prosecution while Lim was represented by lawyer Belinda Low.

The court denied bail and fixed May 13 for case mention.
