KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have arrested a player caught on video bringing a sharp weapon to a football match in a disagreement at the KLFA Football Centre here last Sunday.

Wangsa Maju police chief Lazim Ismail said the 22-year-old man was arrested at his house in Klang at about 6.30pm yesterday, Bernama reported.

In a statement, Lazim said police also arrested the suspect’s girlfriend, a foreign national aged 21.

He said the suspect admitted to having brought a small curved knife, or a kerambit, onto the football pitch, claiming it was to defend himself.

“He is on remand for four days until Monday for an investigation under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

“His girlfriend, who has no valid travel documents, is being detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said.

A video which went viral early last Sunday showed a man holding what looked like a kerambit during an argument on the pitch after a match.
