Speaking at the launch of the Malaysia Madani civil servants’ housing programme in Bandar Sri Permaisuri here, Anwar said some details of the salary adjustment would be announced later this month.
“Although there are dissenting voices that never understand gratitude and never accept reality, I will announce it partly in August and fully as promised in October in the national budget. It will be implemented on Dec 1.
“What is the scheme for civil servants? It is the highest salary increase in the nation’s history since independence, for two reasons: first, the country is developing but there has been no comprehensive salary review for 12 years, and second, to recognise their role,” he said.
He added that he would likely announce the increment mechanism during the civil service’s “premier assembly” on Aug 16 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
The prime minister said that civil servants also need to work together with the government to develop the country.
“In this nation, we must ensure a sustainable economy, and the strength of the ringgit, which has been a problem for us, is returning convincingly. The performance of the ringgit today is the best compared to 14 years ago.
“What is the basis? The country, of course, because of stable politics, clear policies, dedicated civil servants, private sector officers… all of these have a role in making it successful,” he said.
