PETALING JAYA:
The Terengganu government has introduced designated seating for female spectators to avoid mixing between genders for upcoming football matches at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.

The state’s youth, sports and NGO committee chairman, Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, said these special seats would be provided starting from the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Negeri Sembilan FC tomorrow night.

Hishamuddin, who is also the Terengganu Football Association president, was quoted by Kosmo as saying the arrangement was introduced to address the issue of intermingling between male and female spectators, as happened during the FA Cup semi-finals last week.

“The stadium is open, and women are not barred from entering any entrance or sitting in any specific zone (for women) within the stadium.

“This special seating is an effort to ensure compliance with religious and shariah requirements, while hopefully reducing the intermingling between men and women during football matches,” he said.

Hishamuddin said the management of the Terengganu Sports Complex and Terengganu FC will also designate special seats for families.
