In a statement, Tay Wei Wei said that Sng was no longer part of Sarawak PKR and that it would be better for the latter to focus on his own party.
Sng, the Julau MP, stepped down as Sarawak PKR chief in 2021.
“Sarawak PKR isn’t a party that supports ‘political frogs’.
“There is no need to look for cheap publicity by trying to pit Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) against PH,” the Sarawak PKR information chief said.
Earlier this week, Sng said it was best for PH to join GPS or other local parties, noting that Sarawak PH’s political interests were superseded by national interest.
“The reality is this (federal) government needs GPS more than it needs Sarawak PH,” Sng wrote in a Facebook post, adding that it was nonsensical for the prime minister to give in to all of Sarawak’s demands and “yet fight GPS in the state election, which they cannot win”.
Sng had said this in response to Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg, who had jokingly claimed in a podcast that DAP and PKR “do not exist” in Sarawak thanks to GPS’s dominance in the state.
The ruling coalition, which is headed by Abang Johari, currently holds 80 seats in the 82-seat state assembly, with DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen (Padungan) and Violet Yong (Pending) being the only two opposition assemblymen.
Tay said that while there was no cooperation between Sarawak PKR and GPS, the state’s ruling coalition had joined forces with the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR president.
“So it is a little inaccurate to say that Sarawak PH, namely DAP and PKR, do not exist as we have representatives in the state assembly and in Parliament.”
