Nanny remanded over suspected abuse of 2-month-old baby

Parents lodge a police report after taking their child to hospital for treatment.

The baby was taken to a hospital where a doctor confirmed that her leg was fractured.
PETALING JAYA:
A nanny has been remanded to assist in the investigation into the suspected abuse of a two-month-old baby girl, which resulted in a broken left leg, in Bandar Dato Onn, Johor Bahru.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the 36-year-old nanny had been remanded until Sunday, Sinar Harian reported.

“Police detained the nanny after the baby’s parents filed a report on Sunday afternoon. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001,” he said today.

Previously, the incident went viral on social media, with the baby’s mother claiming she noticed something was wrong with her child after picking her up from the nanny last Saturday.

She claimed that while changing the diaper, the father noticed that the child’s left thigh was swollen. The baby also seemed less active and drank less milk.

She said they took their child to a clinic for examination and were referred to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed that the baby’s thigh bone was fractured.

According to the mother, when they contacted the nanny to enquire about a possible cause, the latter said nothing had happened to the baby.

The mother said they then decided to lodge a report at the Dato Onn police station.
