PETALING JAYA: Activist Hishamuddin Rais, who gave a statement to the authorities yesterday, is not the subject of an ongoing investigation, says the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
MCMC said the activist’s statement was recorded in relation with “offensive content” that was reposted on his blog “TukarTiub”.
“Hishamuddin is not the subject of the investigation,” it said in a statement.
“No arrests were made nor any devices seized, and the investigation was completed at 6.45pm yesterday. MCMC stresses that any investigative actions against individuals are based on existing legal provisions.”
Hishamuddin spent three and a half hours giving his statement at the Brickfields police headquarters at 3.15pm yesterday.
