Infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim said the federal government had requested the state to review the adjustments made by the developer to determine if they are acceptable.
“This matter was presented to the monitoring committee that I recently chaired. There were improvements and changes made to five or six locations along the proposed highway,” Izham told the state assembly today.
“We feel that the mitigations proposed are good, and this matter will be brought to the Selangor Economic Action Council for further review.”
Izham was responding to a supplementary question from Rajiv Rishyakaran (PH-Bukit Gasing) on whether the project had received reapproval from the federal government or proceeded without first obtaining state approval.
He said the social impact assessment for the improved sections must be redone, requiring re-engagement with residents to obtain their feedback on the acceptability of the improvements.
“This process is still long, and it remains to be seen whether the project will be approved or not,” he said.
In April, unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said Putrajaya had decided not to proceed with the PJD Link project after the concessionaire failed to fulfil six of 11 conditions it had set.
The PJD Link would have connected the north and south of Petaling Jaya, passing through Petaling Jaya Utara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Petaling Jaya city centre, Taman Dato’ Harun, Taman Medan Baru, Taman Sri Manja, Bandar Kinrara and Bukit Jalil Technology Park.
The proposal for the highway’s construction was approved in principle by the Cabinet in November 2017.
Last year, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the state government had decided to scrap the PJD Link project.
He said the impact assessment reports submitted by the developer, particularly the social impact assessment report, were not satisfactory and did not meet certain conditions set by the state government.
Amirudin later called for the developer of the proposed highway to renegotiate the project’s alignment with the federal government.
