A spokesman for the department’s headquarters told FMT it had received multiple reports about the incident and had forwarded information on the matter to its Selangor office for further investigation.
Independent rescuer Shima Aris said a video of the incident, which has since been widely shared on social media, showed a shirtless man forcefully grabbing the dog and repeatedly hitting its face.
Shima said that along with a group of rescuers, she went to the condominium to demand that the man surrender the dog, which he did willingly.
“But unfortunately, there’s another dog left,” she told FMT, referring to a Pomeranian that was also seen in the video.
“I couldn’t (bring the Pomeranian along with me) as there’s no proof (the owner) hit the dog.”
She said the husky was currently being treated by a veterinarian at a private clinic and there were no visible wounds.
“We can’t do a thorough check-up, (because the dog) is too scared,” she said, adding that the dog would urinate when the rescuers touched it.
When contacted, Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the cops will leave it to the veterinary services department to probe the matter.
