In a statement, it said residents would only have to relocate after the completion of replacement houses, while commercial units would be allowed to occupy the site until August.
DBKL said the replacement homes have three rooms and two bathrooms in a 35-storey building.
“Lot PT 26640 is the lot designated for the development of such homes, along with affordable housing for former temporary occupation licence (TOL) holders, squatters, and longhouse residents,” it said.
“(The replacement houses project) has reached 82% completion status and is expected to be completed by end-2024.
“Meanwhile, the development of affordable homes, which received planning approval in August 2023, will commence after the electric pylon issue with Tenaga Nasional Bhd is resolved.”
DBKL’s statement follows receipt of a memorandum from a Segambut residents’ association yesterday, which sought intervention against a developer allegedly pushing for eviction without offering alternative housing.
Ameer Khan Bargathalli, the secretary of Jawatankuasa Gabungan Isu Perumahan dan Pampasan, said JST residents were suspicious of the developer’s “hasty” demand for them to sign a commitment letter to vacate their homes without any update on their new homes.
JST residents have lived in the area from 1969 under a TOL issued by DBKL until it expired in 1996. Renewal attempts in 2004 were unapproved, despite paying assessment rates until 2006.
In 2007, DBKL approved mixed development plans for the land submitted by Syarikat Zil Enterprise Sdn Bhd (now known as Uttara Land Sdn Bhd).
In the statement, DBKL also said there had been ongoing discussions and follow-up actions involving City Hall, Uttara Land Sdn Bhd, and resident representatives, to coordinate the necessary documents for former TOL residents.
“Engagement sessions with residents have also been arranged to update on the development status,” it added.
