37 drunk drivers held in Johor under Ops Mabuk

PETALING JAYA:
Johor police detained 37 drivers, aged between 18 and 60, for drink driving under Ops Mabuk held throughout the state last night.

Johor police chief M Kumar said they were among 1,204 people and 1,056 vehicles checked during the operation, Bernama reported.

He said the policemen were told to focus on identifying and taking stern action against drunk drivers who continuously flaunt traffic rules.

Kumar said the 37 drivers were detained under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.

He warned that similar operations would continue.

He said a 41-year-old man was also detained under Section 41(1) of the same Act for dangerous driving.

A total of 532 summonses were issued for various offences.

Two Thai women were also held under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions.
