PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of killing his mother at a flat in Relau on Penang island this evening.

Timur Laut police chief Razlam Ab Hamid said the suspect is believed to have mental issues.

He was arrested after police were informed of the incident by his brother, said Razlam.

According to Bernama, he said the suspect had called his brother at about 5pm to inform him that he had stabbed their mother, aged 67, with a pair of scissors.

“Based on our preliminary investigation, before the incident occured, the victim’s two other children had tried to call her but the phone calls went unanswered.

“They were shocked when the suspect called to tell them that he had stabbed their mother and that she had died,” he said.

Razlam said the suspect had been sent for psychiatric treatment last year after threatening to kill all of his family members.
