Cops yet to establish motive for acid attack on footballer Faisal Halim

Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain says police have only established a pattern of attack and are widening the investigation.

Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain says he will look into claims by footballer Faisal Halim that he was last contacted by police in the first week of the investigation.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have yet to establish the motive for the acid attack on Selangor FC and Harimau Malaya winger Faisal Halim at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya last month.

Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain said police have widened their scope of investigation, which is now in its second phase.

“Fingerprints and a photofit of the alleged suspect have not been of much help either. We also face constraints because there were no witnesses to the incident.

“So far, we have only identified the pattern of attack, but have yet to establish the motive for the attack and (the) other crimes against footballers,” he said at Bukit Aman here today.

He said police have also taken several statements from Football Association of Malaysia officials and will meet with Faisal again soon.

Commenting on the statement by Faisal that he was last contacted by the police in the first week of the incident, Shuhaily said his department would contact Selangor police for more information.

Yesterday, Faisal made his first public appearance, saying he refused to hide and wanted to live a normal life.

The 26-year-old Penang-born player, who has lost about 4kg since the incident, said his eyesight is good but he needs to wear glasses when reading.

On May 5, Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns to several parts of his body after being splashed with acid by an unknown attacker at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

On May 25, Selangor FC issued a statement confirming that the winger had been discharged from a private hospital here after undergoing four surgeries.
