PETALING JAYA:
Police have found discrepancies between the statements from witnesses and the parents of murdered autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, leading to the extension of his parents’ remand order, says Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.

He said police are working to complete the investigation before referring the case to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Berita Harian reported.

“The case is still under investigation. The remand needs to be extended by six more days because there are matters that require further investigation, as there are contradictions that need to be resolved.

“This involves the parents and other witnesses. There are things that need to be reviewed because some aspects are not consistent with witness statements, and this led to the parents’ arrest,” he said.

Yesterday, the remand for Zayn’s parents was extended by a further six days, as they assist police in a murder inquiry under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Zayn, six, was reported missing on Dec 5 last year in Damansara Damai, before being found dead near a stream about 200m from his apartment block at Apartment Idaman the next day.

The post-mortem revealed multiple injuries, including defensive wounds, while the cause of death was believed to be strangulation.
