Blaze at Westports terminal engulfs 14 containers

The Selangor fire and rescue department says no injuries were reported.

SHAH ALAM:
Fourteen 40-foot containers containing various industrial goods caught fire earlier today at the Westports container terminal in Pulau Indah, Klang.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Wan Razali Wan Ismail said 24 personnel were deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received at 1.40pm.

“The fire involved fourteen 40-foot containers. The task of relocating the burning containers was carried out by Westports using cranes.

“Among the contents of the containers were unbleached kraft paper or paperboard, laundry-type washing machines, polyvinyl chloride polymers, sawn pine wood, as well as scaffolding and shuttering equipment,” he said in a statement today.

He said the fire was contained by 2.39pm, adding that there were no casualties.
