He reminded Bersatu’s elected representatives that non-compliance with any Supreme Council directive would result in immediate termination of their membership.
Bersatu has 31 members of Parliament and 60 members of state assemblies.
It is understood that six MPs and a Selangor assemblyman who declared support for the unity government have also submitted their replies, which were reportedly deemed unsatisfactory.
FMT is seeking confirmation of the remaining elected representative who might not have returned the notice.
Muhyiddin thanked Bersatu’s special committee for carrying out the Supreme Council’s special directive in an orderly manner, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
The notice contains instructions to uphold party loyalty and support its policies, while also signalling non-allegiance to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government. The elected representatives were given 14 days to state their stand.
Bersatu’s move to ensure party loyalty comes in the wake of six MPs pledging support for Anwar, and a Selangor assemblyman to menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
A special committee will meet to review the responses from all elected representatives, including the feedback from the seven.
They are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan); and Abdul Rashid Asari (state assemblyman for Selat Klang, Selangor).
All seven said they would remain loyal to Bersatu despite having shown support for the government, which they said arose from the need for development allocations to serve their constituencies.
