KUALA LUMPUR:
Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed its lawyers to gather evidence for an election petition to challenge Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

PN information chief Azmin Ali said the 16 district polling centre chiefs were helping to collect data for review by the coalition’s legal team.

“We will select cases that are solid enough to be presented for an election petition,” he told a press conference here today.

“However, the (timing of our submission) depends on our ability to gather accurate information before formally submitting the petition application.”

Pang Sock Tao of DAP successfully defended the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat for PH on May 11, beating PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut with a larger-than-expected majority.

She also surprised many by taking the bulk of the early votes cast by the policemen, military personnel and their spouses.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had previously said PN would file an election petition if PH won the by-election, accusing PH of abusing government machinery before and during the election campaign.

PH leaders have denied the allegation, saying the coalition adhered to election laws, with DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook saying it was peculiar that PN would only consider filing an election petition if PH won the seat.
