TELUK INTAN:
A decades-old housing problem that has plagued 245 estate families in Hulu Selangor will be resolved soon, according to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming who said the government will announce good news next week.

The families, from five estates in Bestari Jaya (formerly Batang Berjuntai) had been evicted from the estates, without a home to live in.

“This problem has existed since 1998, so it has been 26 years that the issue has not been resolved,” Nga said. “Next week, we will bring a piece of good news in relation to the long-standing housing problem affecting the 245 families.”

He said the five estates are the Mary, Nigel Gardner, Sungai Tinggi, Minyak and Bukit Tagar estates.

Nga, who is MP for Teluk Intan, said more than RM42 million has been allocated for schools, mosques and suraus as well as for the development of the Teluk Intan area, and RM35 million for a bridge from Kampung Bahagia to Bandar Teluk Intan.

Ready for probe over Hulu Selangor funds

Nga said he is ready to cooperate with the Election Commission (EC) over complaints about his announcement on a RM5 million allocation to the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council.

Perikatan Nasional complained to the commission about the announcement being made ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

However, Nga said the announcement was not made during the campaign period. “This is not an issue at all. I travel nationwide all the time to implement the KPKT Sentuhan Kasih programme. Today, I am in Teluk Intan and I also made an announcement. Last week, I was in Gerik and I also made an announcement,” he said.

Nga said his Hulu Selangor announcement was not an election offence. “The candidates had not been named yet. I did not even know who the candidates were,” he said.

Yesterday, PN lodged a complaint with the EC regarding the allegation. PN Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was reported to have urged the commission to take action against those who violated election rules.

Nga’s announcement was made on April 18 while on a working visit to Kuala Kubu Baharu. He announced the allocation to upgrade public infrastructure and the New Village in the area.

The allocation included 14 projects worth RM4.82 million to be implemented by the municipal council and the village community management council.
