Lucky escape for passengers, driver after express bus catches fire

The 16 passengers were able to continue their journey on the North-South Expressway on another bus.

PETALING JAYA:
All 16 passengers and the driver of an express bus escaped unhurt when the vehicle caught fire at Km242.3 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, near Ipoh, late last night.

Ipoh fire and rescue department operations commander Fawwaz Abdul Jamil said they received a distress call at midnight, Bernama reported.

He said firemen were able to bring the flames under control by 12.50am, but the bus had already been 80% damaged.

The passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
