PETALING JAYA:
Firdaus Wong, the owner of news portal the Merdeka Times, says he has been summoned by the police for publishing controversial remarks by academic Teo Kok Seong.

The website reported that Wong will give a statement at the Brickfields police headquarters next week. He said he will defend his actions as he believed that Teo had made factual statements.

Teo had been criticised by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok last week, alleging that he made inflammatory comments about the Chinese community.

Teo, a former professor of ethnic studies, is senior fellow of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s ethnic studies institute. He had said in a Merdeka Times video that the Chinese community think lowly of the Malays, and that vernacular schools are one of the obstacles in the way of national unity.
