Fahmi said the former PKR vice-president had the right to make such a decision as he was no longer active in the party.

“It is his decision, his right. It’s up to him. He has also not been involved or active (in the party) since the 14th general election.

“Perhaps he thinks it’s appropriate for him to use another platform. That is his right, I respect his decision,” Fahmi said, according to Bernama.

Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said this when met after an engagement session with cinema operators here last night.

On Monday, Surendran expressed discontent over what he called the “shameful” silence from Pakatan Harapan on the sedition probe against former Damansara MP Tony Pua.

Bukit Aman is investigating Pua for his remarks against the commutation of former prime minister Najib Razak’s sentence in the SRC International case.

When asked to comment on the matter earlier, Fahmi urged the former Padang Serai MP to practise party discipline when expressing dissatisfaction over such issues.

“Fahmi, never mind party discipline. I’ve not been an active party member for a long time anyway,” Surendran said in a post on X.

“I asked about the reforms PKR once promised. No decent answer to that.

“There is no point in being a member of a party that no longer represents change and reform. Take this as my resignation.”

Surendran, who joined PKR during the early stages of the reformasi movement in the late 1990s, is also a lawyer and serves as the adviser for the Lawyers for Liberty group.
