MELAKA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a company director for allegedly bribing civil servants in several Melaka government departments to get procurement contracts worth a total of RM639,104.

Melaka MACC director Shahril Che Saad said the man in his 60s was detained when he turned up at the Melaka MACC office at about noon to assist with ongoing investigations.

“The arrest was made as the suspect had (allegedly) bribed civil servants in various government departments in Melaka between 2021 and 2023, paying thousands of ringgit to ensure he was successful in getting supply projects.

“MACC has not ruled out the possibility of calling in some civil servants from the various departments to assist in our investigation into the case,” he said in a statement.

Shahril said that “bribery cartels” must be eradicated to stop the monopoly of supply projects in state government departments in Melaka.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009 and the suspect will be taken to court tomorrow to obtain a remand order.
