PETALING JAYA:
A government lawmaker has urged the opposition to immediately file a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim before the Dewan Rakyat reconvenes on Feb 26.

Commenting on the “Dubai Move”, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim said Perikatan Nasional must be serious if it wished to test Anwar’s validity as prime minister, having accused him of not possessing a simple majority of 112 seats.

Hassan said the motion could be brought based on Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution and must be referred to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker at least 14 days before the session begins.

“A motion can be filed now if the opposition is serious about it. It can then be tabled on Feb 27,” Hassan told FMT.

FMT yesterday reported lawyer Bastian Pius Vendargon as saying the best way to test Anwar’s support would be in the Dewan Rakyat itself.

The “Dubai Move” refers to alleged talks in the United Arab Emirates between certain opposition leaders and government representatives to topple Anwar’s administration.
