Cops to determine if attack on Ngeh’s house linked to recent remarks

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain says Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham has no issues with the community in Ayer Tawar, Perak.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has urged the public not to speculate about the Molotov cocktail attack on Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s house earlier today.
PETALING JAYA:
The police are looking to determine whether the Molotov cocktail attack on Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s house today is linked to his recent remarks.

“We will know if there is any relation (to the remarks) if we make an arrest,” Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told Bernama.

“I urge the public not to speculate about this incident as the investigation is still ongoing.”

Razarudin said the police were exploring various angles in the case and collecting information with the help of the Special Branch and tip-offs from the public.

He added that Ngeh had no problems with the community in Ayer Tawar, Perak.

Earlier, Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said the police were hunting the person suspected of hurling a Molotov cocktail at Ngeh’s house which damaged three vehicles.

At a press conference after the incident, Ngeh said he forgave the people behind the attack and said he suspected it was due to a media statement he issued on Dec 28.

The DAP man sparked controversy with the statement by suggesting that non-Muslim constitutional experts be appointed to a committee reviewing the jurisdiction of shariah courts according to the Federal Constitution.

Stating that his suggestion was twisted by some politicians to incite fear within the Malay-Muslim community, Ngeh said he had already apologised for the proposal and withdrew it.

Leaders from PAS and Pejuang have condemned the attack on Ngeh’s house, with PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari describing it as an “unacceptable act” and Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid Ali stressing that political differences did not justify criminal behaviour.
