Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul, who announced his support for Anwar in November last year, claimed that these opposition MPs are waiting for the Dewan Rakyat to resume its meeting next month before declaring that they will back Anwar.
“Seven to eight MPs are waiting to announce their support (for Anwar),” he told reporters at an event at the people’s housing project (PPR) in Kerinchi here today.
“Their approach is to wait for the lower house to resume on Feb 26. They want to wait and observe the political development over the next two months.”
Hussin said these opposition MPs plan to declare their support for Anwar as they want to secure funding for their constituencies.
Last month, Hussin announced that some opposition MPs from Malay-majority constituencies in several states are planning on pledging their support for Anwar.
Hussin was the fifth Bersatu MP to have backed Anwar last year. The other four were Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
Speculation over the “Dubai Move” arose following alleged discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives during a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting was allegedly aimed at dividing tasks among “agents” to identify MPs who could switch support to the opposition to form a new government.
