PETALING JAYA:
Police have detained a man who was seen roaming the floors of the Seri Semarak public housing project (PPR) in Kuala Lumpur with a parang.

Wangsa Maju police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the suspect was now receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s (HKL) psychiatric ward.

“The standard procedure for dealing with individuals deemed mentally unstable is to take them to the hospital for treatment,” he told FMT.

He added that once the suspect was handed over to the hospital, he was no longer under the responsibility of the police.

He was commenting on the video of a man carrying a parang and roaming the floors of the flats that went viral.

It has been alleged that the Seri Semarak PPR’s management had on several occasions filed complaints and police reports against the individual, but that only a warning was issued.
