KTM Komuter, ETS services still disrupted by crane collapse

PETALING JAYA:
The KTM Komuter and electric train services (ETS) in the Klang Valley are still disrupted after the collapse of a construction crane on a railway track.

In a statement, rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) said the crane, used for a multi-storey car park project, collapsed onto the railway track at KM355.749 between Rawang and Kuang, severing the overhead line.

The incident occurred at 5.35pm yesterday.

Because of this disruption, trains on the KTM Komuter KL Sentral-Tanjung Malim line will stop at the Sungai Buloh and Serendah stations. Transit buses have been prepared at both stations.

Meanwhile, the ETS’s Padang Besar-Gemas line will stop at the Tanjung Malim station. Transit buses will take passengers from the Tanjung Malim station to the Sungai Buloh station so that they can continue their journey to KL Sentral and Gemas via the ETS.

Similarly, ETS coaches headed from Gemas to KL Sentral, Butterworth or Padang Besar will stop at the Sungai Buloh station. Passengers will then be ferried by bus to the Tanjung Malim station to resume their trip on the ETS.

“Throughout this service disruption, KTMB has stationed staff and auxiliary policemen at the stations to assist in facilitating the movement of affected passengers,” KTMB said in a statement.

KTMB CEO Rani Hisham Samsudin said affected commuters could opt to change their ticket dates or cancel their journey and receive a refund.

He told a press conference that the refund would be conducted online with the ticket amount credited into travellers’ e-wallets.

Yesterday, KTMB said KTM Komuter and ETS services in the Klang Valley had been disrupted after a crane toppled near the track at an unspecified location.

It said the incident obstructed both tracks of the Rawang-Tanjung Malim route.
