Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said other agencies that would fall under his purview were the information department, national news agency Bernama and the Tun Abdul Razak Institute of Broadcasting and Information.
He said this after his previous ministry, known as the communications and digital ministry, was split into two by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a Cabinet reshuffle.
At a press conference, Fahmi said the Cabinet had decided which agencies would go under his ministry and which would go under the digital ministry, helmed by Gobind Singh Deo.
J-Kom was previously under the Prime Minister’s Department.
J-Kom has been embroiled in controversy after a lewd video recording between a man resembling former J-Kom director-general Agus Yusoff and department official Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani went viral last month.
The police are investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the government’s spokesman, said Anwar thanked those who had been dropped from the Cabinet for their service over the past year.
He said Anwar decided to bring back some experienced leaders into the Cabinet as he “wants the people’s problems solved immediately”.
Amanah’s Dzulkefly Ahmad and Umno’s Johari Ghani were two former ministers who were reappointed yesterday in Anwar’s first Cabinet reshuffle.
Dzulkefly will take over the health portfolio while Johari was appointed as plantation and commodities minister.
Dzulkefly previously served as health minister for nearly two years in the Pakatan Harapan administration while Johari was the second finance minister from 2016 to 2018 when Barisan Nasional was in power.
There are 31 ministers in Anwar’s revamped Cabinet. They will be aided by 29 deputy ministers. This is slightly larger than his initial 28-member Cabinet, which was assisted by 27 deputy ministers.
