Santiago said the team must consist of people from outside the police force to investigate Ayob’s assertions that “certain quarters” were looking to bring him down as well as Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya.

“Otherwise, these (two) guys will always be tainted and there will be no clear explanation if their bosses say ‘yes, we have investigated transparently and we have no issues,’” he told FMT.

The former MP said an independent team is needed as the police cannot be expected to investigate themselves.

Ayob said at a forum on Thursday that there were some attempting to bring him down from within and tarnish his reputation through slander. He did not say what accusations had been made internally, but said he would stand his ground in the face of investigations.
