PETALING JAYA:
A suitable candidate has been identified to fill the vacant position of domestic trade and cost of living minister, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He said an announcement would be made soon on the Cabinet appointment to fill the vacancy left by the passing of the former minister, Salahuddin Ayub last July, Bernama reported.

He said this to reporters after performing his Friday prayers at Surau Al-Furqan in Putrajaya.

Asked if he had anyone in mind for the post, he simply replied: “Yes, there is.”

However, he did not reveal any other information on who was the candidate nor indicate when the post would be filled.

Salahuddin, 61, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah on July 23 this year after undergoing surgery due to brain haemorrhage. He was also Amanah deputy president.

Sabah, Sarawak affairs and special functions minister Armizan Ali is currently acting domestic trade and cost of living minister. Fuziah Salleh is the deputy minister.
