PETALING JAYA:
An Indonesian babysitter was charged at the sessions court here today with neglect leading to the death of an infant at a childcare centre in Kota Damansara last month.

Mulyati Kalim, 51, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her before judge Syahliza Warnoh.

The charge read that the accused, as someone responsible for the care of two-month-old Qaseuh Aulia Faizul, had neglected her by leaving her without supervision, resulting in the infant’s death.

Mulyati allegedly committed the offence at a nursery in Kota Damansara, Selangor, at around 9.40am on Oct 10, 2023.

The charge was framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both.

She was allowed RM15,000 bail with two sureties.

The court fixed Dec 21 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor P Vithiya Monisha prosecuted, while Mulyati was represented by Badrul Munir Bukhari.
