Salesman claims trial to ramming 2 people with car

Vincent Lim, 31, pleaded not guilty at the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court today to a charge of attempting to cause the deaths of a woman and a man in Auto City, Perai.
BUKIT MERTAJAM:
A salesman pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here to allegedly ramming a woman and a man with a car in Auto City, Perai earlier this month.

Vincent Lim, 31, entered his plea after the charge was read out before magistrate Roshayati Radellah.

He is accused of hitting Ang Siew Chin, 41, and Tan Yee Lian, 44, with a BMW bearing the registration number VER 8191 by the roadside at Lorong Perusahaan Maju 8 at about 9.45pm on April 15.

The charge, framed under Section 308 of the Penal Code for attempting to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder, carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Amalina Harun proposed bail of RM15,000.

Defence lawyer Parmjit Singh requested bail of RM8,000, saying Lim earns RM2,500 a month as a construction materials salesman and is the sole breadwinner for his family.

The court allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered Lim not to contact the victims or prosecution witnesses.

June 4 was fixed for case mention. Lawyer Tang Sueh Jing held a watching brief for the victims.
