KUALA LUMPUR:
A jobless man claimed trial at the sessions court here today to the unlawful possession of 3,000 litres of diesel, a government-subsidised good.

M Saravanan was charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act after the discovery of the diesel in his lorry under suspicious circumstances.

He is charged with committing the offence on April 24 near SK Marian Convent, Jalan Air Jernih, here.

If found guilty, Saravanan faces a maximum fine of RM1 million, up to three years in jail, or both.

Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid granted him bail of RM30,000 with one surety and set June 2 for case management.

Saravanan was unrepresented, while the domestic trade and cost of living ministry’s prosecuting officers K Selvaraju and Izzat Ariff appeared for the prosecution.
