Group apologises for naming ex-CJ in ‘Pulangkan Najib’ event

A spokesman for the event organiser said the mistake was caused by miscommunication.

Former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad was listed as a forum speaker by mistake, says a spokesman for the event organiser.
PETALING JAYA:
A student movement has apologised to former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad for linking him to a forum related to seeking a pardon for jailed former prime minister Najib Razak.

A poster published on Najib’s Facebook page had listed Hamid as a speaker for the forum in Melaka tonight.

“We admit there was a misunderstanding in organising the ‘Pulangkan Najib’ dialogue in Melaka which involved the former chief justice,” said the group’s spokesman, Wan Muhammad Zuhir Ghazali.

“The Pulangkan Najib movement apologises for the miscommunication and misunderstandings that occurred,” he said in a statement. However, Wan Muhammad Zuhir said he hoped that Hamid would provide his insights and thoughts at the group’s future events.

Earlier today, Hamid had denied his involvement in the “Pulangkan Najib” dialogue in Melaka and said his name and photo had been used in an “irresponsible and deceptive” manner.

“I don’t know anything about the dialogue and never agreed to appear as a speaker or in any capacity whatsoever. I demand those responsible to retract the poster and apologise to me,” he said.

Najib is serving a 12-year jail term after being found guilty on charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over funds amounting to RM42 million belonging to SRC International, a government-owned investment company.

Umno has applied to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for Najib to be granted a royal pardon.
