‘You touch, you go’ policy remains in MRSM schools, says Mara chief

Chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urges parents to inform Mara directly if the school administration attempts to cover up bullying cases.

Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said stern action must be taken against bullies, in order to shape generations that are more responsible when they enter society.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will not compromise when it comes to the issue of bullying at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) schools, says Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re the son of a VIP or a VVIP,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday. “You touch, you go!”

He urged parents of any MRSM student who is a victim of bullying to inform Mara directly if the school administration tries to cover up such cases.

“MRSM schools have produced many generations (of students) who not only possess knowledge but are also taught manners, morals and values,” Asyraf said.

“Bullying, if allowed to continue without stern action, will hinder all efforts to shape students who can bear the great responsibilities that come when they enter society.

“Such people, should they ever lead an organisation in future, will have lost the value of respecting their subordinates, and will oppress them without compassion and concern.”

His comments came in the wake of an alleged bullying incident at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), in which it was reported that the mother of a Form 4 student demanded the expulsion of a group of seniors who allegedly assaulted her son in September.

The mother said that although her son suffered a groin injury during the assault, the bullies were only punished with three strokes of the cane and to perform community service.

She attacked the school for not enforcing its “you touch, you go” policy, which states that bullies will be expelled.
