Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said the party was aware that there were attempts to win over its elected representatives to ensure Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government remained in power.
He said the pledge of allegiance was necessary in view of the current “political challenges”.
“A special meeting with all Bersatu assemblymen and the president was set up and Alhamdulillah, they unanimously agreed (to renew support),” he said in a statement.
Razali, however, did not disclose when the meeting took place.
The meeting comes in the wake of four Bersatu MPs declaring their support for Anwar’s administration in order to ensure the well-being of their constituents.
The four are Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
Suhaili has been suspended from Bersatu for six years, and Iskandar Dzulkarnain for four years.
Commenting on these MPs, Razali said the trend of “supporting the government but loyal to Bersatu” would only weaken the party and affect its chances of taking over the government leadership.
