
Chief Statistician Uzir Mahidin said rape cases recorded an increase of 9.6%.
“However, cases of unnatural sex, sexual harassment and outraging one’s modesty each decreased by 10.4%, 5.7% and 0.5% respectively,” he said in a statement.
He said the crime index went down by 4.1% with 50,813 cases recorded, while commercial crimes also decreased by 3% to 30,536 cases in 2022.
However, cybercrimes increased by 44.3% to 577 from 400 cases in 2021.
Uzir said drug-related cases such as the supply and possession of drugs as well as positive urine tests showed an increase of 30.6% to 141,289 cases in 2022.
“The offence of supplying drugs increased by 18%, drug possession increased by 35.1%, and positive urine tests increased by 31.2% compared to 2021. The number of drug-related arrests increased by 26.3% to 163,697 arrests in 2022,” he said.
