Fathul said he relinquished his position because he was appointed by the acting division chief who stepped down on Oct 1.
“When the acting division chief stepped down, it was only appropriate for me to do the same in solidarity with him,” he said in a statement today.
Fathul said the recent events were an internal party matter and should not raise any doubts about his position as a Perikatan Nasional MP.
“I will never resign from the party or declare support for the government of the day. My loyalty is not for sale,” he said.
Two weeks ago, it was reported that Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid declared his support for the Anwar Ibrahim-led government but would remain with Bersatu.
