Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut) said as of the third quarter of 2023, about 86.5% of the LRT3 project had been completed.
“It is expected to be completed by March 2025. But will this (construction of the five stations) affect its progress?” he said in the Dewan Rakyat when debating the 2024 Supply Bill.
Khairil also questioned if the costs would be readjusted in line with the recently tabled national budget.
“Why weren’t these additional costs included when the budget was tabled?”
Last week, the government announced that the construction of the five LRT stations in the Klang Valley that were cancelled in 2018 would be revived at a cost of RM4.7 billion.
The five stations — Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik — are on the LRT3 line, which is under construction. The line will connect the 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang.
Meanwhile, Khairil also proposed increasing the development expenditure for Sabah to boost infrastructure development, particularly roads and waterways.
Such upgrades were needed in anticipation of the economic spillover from the development in Kalimantan and deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement of a 50,000-hectare land in Sabah and Sarawak to plant padi.
