KUALA LUMPUR:
Eight areas in Peninsular Malaysia recorded unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings as of 5pm, with Klang the highest at 159, according to the department of environment’s air pollutant index management system (Apims) website.

Four more areas in Selangor also recorded unhealthy API readings: Petaling Jaya (154), Johan Setia (153), Shah Alam (138) and Banting (133).

Cheras and Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur recorded API readings of 146 and 137, respectively.

Tangkak, Johor, recorded a reading of 116.

Moderate API readings were taken in a further 45 areas. An API reading of 0-50 indicates that the air quality is good, 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy; and above 300 is hazardous.

The department releases API data every hour, taken from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
