Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) deputy commander Wan Fazli Wan Hamat said 10 of the seized containers carried 219 tonnes of e-waste, while another container contained 23 tonnes of scheduled waste classified under the SW422 category.
“Imports of such waste are prohibited under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and stern action will be taken against those who violate the law,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
The containers will be re-exported in accordance with established procedures.
Wan Fazli said AKPS would continue to tighten control at all entry points, including major ports.
The integrated operation involved cooperation from the customs department, the environment department, Sirim and the Port Klang Authority.
