Muda’s Amira to sit with opposition in Johor state assembly

This comes after her party’s exit from the unity government on Sunday.

Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz is the sole Muda representative in the Johor state assembly.
PETALING JAYA:
Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been placed in the opposition bloc in the Johor state assembly, said Johor Speaker Puad Zarkashi.

“Based on media statements by the party (Muda) president and a letter from Chen Kah Eng, the chief whip of the Johor state assembly from the PH bloc, the seat of Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira has been moved to the PN bloc,” Puad said in a statement today.

Amira is the sole Muda representative in the assembly.

On Sunday, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman announced the party’s exit from the unity government after expressing dissatisfaction with the abrupt halt of deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial.

Syed Saddiq claimed the government’s actions were seen as normalising corruption, and he was unwilling to compromise with such “unprincipled behaviour”.

Yesterday, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said he had received a letter from Syed Saddiq applying to change his seating position in the lower house.

The statement also said newly elected Simpang Jeram assemblyman Nazri Abdul Rahman will be sworn in on Thursday during the third meeting of the second session of the 15th Johor state assembly.
