Govt to cancel projects which are yet to commence, says Anwar

The prime minister says these projects will be cancelled to make way for more urgent ones.

Long-approved projects which have yet to start will be scrapped to make way for more pressing projects for the public, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Putrajaya will scrap government projects that were approved several years ago but have yet to commence, the prime minister said.

Such projects include those that were given the green light under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), Anwar Ibrahim said.

“The purpose of cancelling these projects is to make way for more urgent projects for the people,” he told the Dewan Rakyat when tabling the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review (MTR) today.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, announced that a special 12MP MTR monitoring committee will be formed to ensure that ministers monitor the execution of projects under the plan.

“Some of the 12MP MTR targets will become part of the key performance indicators for the ministries.”
