“As an example, telcos can provide smartphones priced lower than RM240, a monthly postpaid plan lower than RM60, or data quota higher than 60GB a month,” he said.
Fahmi also announced the Rahmah RM10 a month postpaid rebate package for civil servants, for as low as RM60 a month, starting Sept 16.
He said the 5G Rahmah package included a selection of smartphone brands such as Samsung A14 5G or Honor 90 Lite 5G, which have basic specifications. However, telcos are encouraged to provide better models.
Fahmi said some telcos would be offering the 5G package for as low as RM35 for 100GB of data, while some would also be offering a free device.
He said through the strategic cooperation of his ministry with companies such as Samsung and Honor, the warranty period for the 5G Rahmah package would be 24 months.
“The 5G Rahmah package is open to all Malaysians without a purchase limit,” he said.
In line with the Madani economy framework, Fahmi also announced that the first 100,000 customers from the B40 group would be eligible to receive a RM120 subsidy on their smartphones.
“The RM120 subsidy is only for one 5G Rahmah purchase. The second and subsequent devices purchased under the package will remain at RM240,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Rahmah postpaid rebate offer is only for civil servants serving with federal and state governments, as well as local authorities, subject to the terms of the telco companies involved.
The incentive is divided into two categories: civil servants who have just signed up for a postpaid package worth RM60 and above with any telco involved; and civil servants who are subscribing to postpaid packages valued at RM60 and above with any telco involved, with the postpaid package not tied to any contract.
Fahmi said the incentive would not apply to civil servants who are currently subscribed to any group postpaid package through ministries, departments, agencies, clubs and associations because such packages already offer rebates.
